
LOWELL, IND. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Three people were hospitalized after a hot air balloon crashed in Northwest Indiana Sunday night.
The hot air balloon was flying over an unincorporated area of Lowell when fire officials said it came into contact with some power lines just south of State Road 2.
The balloon crashed in a nearby bean field, and three people were found inside the basket with severe burns.
The Lowell Fire Department said two passengers and a pilot were brought to area hospitals in critical condition.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is handling the crash investigation.
