3 hurt, including firefighter, in North Side nursing home fire: CFD

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Three people were injured, including a firefighter, in a fire at a North Side nursing home.

The Chicago Fire Department said crews responded in the eight o'clock hour to a fire coming from a unit on the sixth floor of the Swartzberg House, a senior living facility located at 3101 W. Touhy.


Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the one unit and put it out before 9:30 a.m.

Two civilians were sent to the hospital with injuries. One was described in good condition, while an older woman with smoke inhalation was at Swedish Hospital, listed in serious condition. The CFD noted she should recover.

A firefighter was also hurt. He suffered a minor fall injury, the department said.

It is not yet known what caused the fire.
