33 injured after Chicago tour bus crashes in Green Bay, Wisconsin

More than 30 people were injured Sunday afternoon when a tour bus traveling from Chicago to a casino in Michigan crashed after exiting a highway in Green Bay, authorities said.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBBM Newsradio) – More than 30 people were injured Sunday afternoon when a tour bus traveling from Chicago to a casino in Michigan crashed after exiting a highway in Green Bay, authorities said.

The bus, carrying 54 passengers, was exiting northbound Interstate 43 just before 3 p.m. when it crossed the roadway and went down an embankment, police said. Officials also reported the bus may have struck a nearby structure.

At least 33 passengers were hurt in the crash, including two who were listed in critical condition. Emergency crews transported many of the injured to four local hospitals for treatment. Others were taken to a reunification center set up at a Salvation Army community facility.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is assisting in the investigation and inspecting the bus for possible mechanical issues. Authorities are also reviewing whether the driver could face citations or charges.

Green Bay police said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
