CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The bids have been submitted and now the city of Chicago will evaluate the five proposals for a casino inside city limits.
The five casino proposals do not lack in size or imagination. The cost estimates top a billion dollars and they include a casino, hotel and an entertainment complex.
The Chicago Sun-times reported one casino proposal for the 78, a soon-to-be redeveloped parcel of long abandoned railroad land along the Chicago River south of Roosevelt Road. The redevelopment proposal included a revival of Mister Kelly’s, a Rush Street nightclub that drew the big names in music and comedy before closing in 1975.
Two proposals would be located in or near the McCormick Place. One plan called for building a casino in the proposed One Central complex that would be built over the Metra tracks near Soldier Field.
The casino competition pits big names in gaming against each other. Rush Street Gaming, which owns the Rivers Casino in Des Plaines has two proposals.
