CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — As young adults begin to make college decisions, one group is helping them factor in safety.
Illinois is home to five of the country's safest college towns, according to a recently released report by SafeWise.
Communication Specialist Andrew Hull said they analyzed FBI crime data in 422 towns across the country.
"So effectively, the college towns that reported the lowest violent and property crime rates in the country are the ones that made the list" Hull told WBBM Newsradio.
Among the list: Lisle, Edwardsville, Charleston, Elmhurst and Wheaton.
Hull noted Illinois had the third most college towns make the top 50 list.
"In fact, Massachusetts and California were the only states that had more college towns on our list," Hull said.
