A 5-year-old boy died when he was struck by two cars after wandering from his home in Sauganash on the Northwest Side Wednesday night.

Taha Khan walked out the front door of his home on Cicero, a block south of Devon around 9 p.m. as his father was talking to a neighbor in the backyard, according to police.

He walked into the street near his home and was hit by a red Jeep that then fled the scene, police said. Taha was knocked into traffic and was hit by a Volvo.

The driver of the Volvo stopped and performed CPR on the boy until an ambulance arrived and took him to St. Francis Health Center, where he died 6 1/2 hours later, according to the Cook County Medical Center.

A police report said the boy had suffered severe head trauma.
