72-year-old disabled woman carjacked in Chatham; police question person of interest

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago Police are talking to a person of interest in connection with the carjacking of a 72-year-old disabled woman on Sunday in Chatham on Chicago's South Side.

According to Chicago police, the carjacking happened Sunday afternoon just before 3:30 p.m. in the 7500 block of South Calumet Avenue. The 72-year-old woman was approached by an assailant who demanded her property.

The suspect then took the woman's car keys and drove off in her 2016 Chevrolet Malibu with disabled plates.

Police said the car was later recovered in the 8200 block of South Bishop Street in Auburn Gresham.

A person of interest was being questioned by detectives Sunday evening, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
