(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – An accused shoplifter left an Oak Lawn supermarket with several types of sausage and other food items after threatening a store employee with a closed box cutter, police say.
Anthony Donaldson is accused of stuffing a duffel bag Feb. 12 with food that included packages of Polish sausage, summer sausage, Ramen noodles, Rainbow chocolate cookies and a jar of mayonnaise at the Jewel at 95th and Pulaski.
According to Patch, a store employee saw Donaldson placing the items in his bag and not paying for them at the self-checkout area. When the employee confronted Donaldson, the suspect allegedly pulled out a closed box cutter and threatened the worker.
The 59-year-old Donaldson fled the store but was caught a short time later, hiding in some bushes behind a bank branch.
Police recovered the duffel bag of food items – collectively valued at $44 – the box cutter, and a suspected crack pipe on Donaldson, Patch reported.
He is charged with aggravated assault, retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.
