Carnivorous plants add a touch of terror to your home. On this week's episode of the Gardening Tips podcast, the Chicago Botanic Garden's Jacob Burns talks about the perfect plants for this spooky season.

With a bit of care, carnivorous plants will thrive, adding a unique and creepy charm to your collection.

Nepenthes, menacing pitcher plant, love hanging in bright, indirect light, while Venus flytraps crave a bit of direct sun to power their sinister jaws. These spooky specimens flourish in a peat-based soil mix where they lie in wait for their next meal.

Ensure you boost humidity, especially in winter, by using a humidifier or placing a humidity tray filled with water and pebbles beneath them.

Consider a terrarium to create an eerie atmosphere. Watch as Nepenthes lure unsuspecting insects into their deceptive pitchers, while Venus flytraps snap shut with bone-chilling precision.

Every Saturday, listen to a new episode of the Gardening Tips podcast for timely tips on all things plants, gardens and the great outdoors. Look for the latest episode here.
