CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - West Side Alderman Chris Taliaferro expects a lot of backlash this evening during a public meeting regarding another migrant shelter.

Taliafero was blindsided by the City’s plan to turn the Amundsen Park Fieldhouse at 6200 West Bloomingdale into a shelter.

It would house at least 200 migrants for at least six months.  Park District programs would be moved to Sayre Park about a mile and a half away.

He recently warned about tensions between Black Chicagoans and Latinos.

Taliaferro predicts an overflow crowd and plenty of “screaming.”

“We can’t take these resources, especially in our underserved communities. This goes against everything that we’re trying to do to reduce violence,” Taliaferro told the Chicago Sun-Times.

“We realize we’re asking our city to take on a lot. But we’re in a bit of a situation here,” Rich Guidice, the mayor’s chief of staff said.
