(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Several Chicago aldermen are concerned about reports that almost a dozen active police officers have ties to hate groups.
40th Ward Ald. Andre Vasquez is among City Council members alarmed by a Chicago Sun-Times report about the extent to which the police department seems to tolerate officers who are members of hate groups such as the Oath Keepers or who associate with the groups.
He said he’s not swayed by any arguments about what constitutes hate.
“If you’re arguing about that piece, you’re arguing about the wrong thing,” Vasquez said. “What we’re talking about is people whose job is justice.”
He said police officers can’t operate with bias.
New Police Supt. Larry Snelling was expected to attend a budget hearing Tuesday.
