CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The Chicago Police Department calls it the beginning of justice for one of their fallen. Xavier Tate Jr. is due in court this morning on multiple charges in the murder of Officer Luis Huesca.
He was the most wanted man in Chicago. Twenty-two year-old Xavier Tate Jr. was arrested two nights ago at an apartment complex in west suburban Glendale Heights.
Chris Gayton lives there and told CBS-2 he had talked to Tate days before but didn’t realize the man who frequently hung out in the second-floor apartment where police and U.S. Marshals caught him was the murder suspect.
“I don’t think he was really hiding because everybody was outside. I feel like if you’re hiding I don’t think you would be outside, I don’t think you would want anybody to see your face,” Gayton said.
Later this morning, Mayor Brandon Johnson and State’s Attorney Kim Foxx are scheduled to join Chicago Police to talk about the charges against the Aurora man. They are the first-degree murder of Officer Huesca, aggravated vehicular hijacking, and possession of a stolen firearm.
