
BROOKFIELD, WIS. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A person is dead after an Amtrak train traveling from Chicago crashed into a car just west of Milwaukee.
It happened Thursday night, along River Road in Brookfield, Wisconsin, at about 5 p.m. Brookfield police said the driver of the car, a man in his 60s, died. It’s believed he drove around the train crossing gates.
Amtrak’s Empire Builder was traveling from Chicago to Seattle at the time. 183 passengers and crew were on board, and no one was hurt.
Authorities said the train crossing at this intersection might be closed for several days.
Three years ago, there was another fatal crash at the same crossing.
