CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Ald. Andre Vasquez (40th) has asked Andersonville residents for their feedback on a potential zoning change, which would bring a Trader Joe's grocery store to Clark Street.

The Trader Joe's would stand at the corner of Clark Street and Summerdale Avenue, where it would share a space with a U.S. Bank ATM drive-through.

If approved, the change would replace the current U.S. Bank building, as well as a home and a parking lot.

Jack George, an attorney for the project’s developers, said Trader Joe's has been looking to come into the Andersonville community for a while. He added that one of the company’s main priorities is to be a good neighbor in the Andersonville community.

"That's going to start with the way they handle the construction of their building, and how it's going to impact the community,” George said. “So, they're going to create it and do it in such a way that there's the least amount of impact on this community."

That's one of the reasons Vasquez said he's encouraging Andersonville residents to submit a feedback form about their thoughts on this zoning change.

"I think when we look at the impact of anything coming into the neighborhood, and obviously, when it's a larger development, we want to take all those questions into consideration and those concerns,” Vasquez said.

Some Andersonville residents said they're worried about how the project will affect traffic flow in the area, specifically on Summerdale, where they say congestion already exists.

George claimed that the area carved out for loading and unloading is sufficient to store vehicles off the street, so as to avoid interrupting the flow of traffic on Summerdale Avenue.

The feedback form is available on Vasquez's website.
