(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Foster families will need to hang on to displaced dogs and cats a bit longer while a south suburban animal shelter stays closed following a fire.
PAWS Tinley Park estimates it will be closed for four to six weeks to make repairs and to replace the washer and dryer damaged in a Jan. 17 fire.
Staff at the no-kill shelter write on Facebook they are overwhelmed by the love and support they’ve received since the fire sent nearly 100 dogs and cats looking for new accommodations. That support includes more than $55,000 in donations.
The majority of the animals are in foster homes. Some are still in the hospital because of ongoing medical problems or struggles finding temporary homes.
