(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An animal shelter in South Elgin is looking for homes for dozens of beagles.

A Virginia facility where about 4,000 beagles were bred for use in research projects shut down, after federal regulators accused the operators of keeping the dogs in conditions that led many to be sick, injured or underfed.
Representatives from Anderson Humane, an animal shelter in South Elgin, will travel to Virginia next month to bring back 100 of the beagles.
Dean Daubert, who runs the shelter, said the facility already is full, so he's looking for people to either adopt or foster a beagle.
He says about 50 people have already volunteered to foster. He said he’s hopeful enough volunteers step forward by the time the dogs arrive at Anderson.
