Anti-mask protests force Fremont School District 79 to go full remote until further notice

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A northwest suburban school district is going to remote learning starting Monday but not because of an outbreak of COVID-19.

Fremont School District 79 serves 2,200 students in Mundelein and several nearby communities. But because of planned anti-mask protests outside one or more of the schools Monday, the district decided to switch to e-learning until further notice.

The district said the protests include intentions to confront and/or interact directly with students and would create substantial disruption to the learning environment.

A statement on the district’s website read, “Our schools cannot become battle grounds for differing adult opinions.”
