(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An Antioch-area man is charged with stealing a boat and then trying to sell its parts.
Barry Hackleman, 54, has been charged with two counts of felony theft after an investigation by the Lake County Sheriff's Office into a report of a stolen boat.
On Thursday, a man reported it missing outside of a business on Grass Lake Road in Unincorporated Antioch. The boat was sitting on a trailer waiting for winterization.
Security camera footage from nearby caught the boat being towed away by a white GMC pickup truck, officials say.
Hackleman was later reported by a marina worker for trying to sell the boat's engine.
“Somebody came in trying to sell an outboard motor from a boat at an extreme discounted rate, which raised some red flags in his mind,” Deputy Sheriff Chris Covelli said.
Security camera footage at the marina captured white GMC pickup truck. Later that evening a deputy spotted Hackleman’s pickup truck and pulled him over.
Hackleman was allegedly found with the motor inside of the bed of his pickup truck, according to officials, and was taken into custody.
