(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An update to a story about bronze markers stolen from veteran headstones, a man and woman have now been arrested in LaPorte County, Indiana.

Late last month a series of bronze veteran headstone marker thefts were reported to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office, an investigation revealing at least 15 markers stolen, others damaged at several graveyards located in LaPorte County.

A tip has now led to the arrest of 53-year-old Terry Wood, and after evidence was recovered from his property in LaPorte, later that same day 25-year-old Breanna Puentez was taken into custody each now charged with one count felony theft along with 15 felony counts of cemetery mischief.

“This type of criminal behavior is disgusting, unacceptable, and will not be tolerated in La Porte County! It is the hope of the entire Sheriff’s Office that because of the diligent and thorough investigation by Detectives Koch and Banic, justice will be served to both accused subjects,” Captain Derek J. Allen stated in a release from the Sheriff’s Office.

“Hopefully, US Veterans, both deceased and living, can find peace and comfort with these arrests, and with that, we salute them for their service.”
