
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin highlighted several new events coming to the suburb, including Christkindlmarket and a St. Patrick’s Day Parade, during his State of the City address Tuesday night.
Irvin said the city did not sit idly by and wait for the cavalry at the height of the coronavirus pandemic and instead hosted mass COVID-19 vaccination events.
The Daily Herald reported his speech, under the theme Aurora Forward, announced the Christkindlmarket will be held at River Edge Park in the city’s downtown.
Irvin, who is running for governor and had some detractors.
The paper said three protesters yelled as he praised the Aurora Police Department for its work combating murders, burglaries and shootings. There were picketers outside the Paramount Theatre calling for an end to the department’s gang database, the paper reported.
