ORLAND PARK (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A task force is helping Orland Park police investigate the shooting death of a Chicago postal worker early Wednesday morning.
Police said officers attempted CPR, but it did not save Mechella Williams, a mother of three and a letter carrier at the post office in River North. They found her in a car full of bullet holes just after midnight near 171st and LaGrange in Orland Park.
Shezelle Reed didn’t know the 28-year-old but told CBS-2 those who do the job are tight-knit.
"As a whole…USPS…Something happens to one of us, it feels like it happened to all of us, you know?" Reed said. "It's scary out here, and it's tragic."
The head of Branch 11 of the National Association of Letter Carriers said Williams worked to provide for her three young children. Friends and family are working on a plan to honor her.
Police have not arrested anyone. The autopsy results on the Woodlawn woman are expected soon.
