CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A 2-month-old boy was found safe after he was in a vehicle that was carjacked Sunday morning on the North Side.
Chicago Police said a 41-year-old man was getting out of his car at a parking lot near Lawrence and Clark in the Ravenswood neighborhood when someone got into the vehicle and drove away.
A 2-month-old baby was still in the backseat.
The stolen car went about seven miles southbound and ended up crashing near Lower Wacker Drive and Randolph.
"We were at a stoplight and all of a sudden a car rammed into our car," Krista Terrien told CBS-2. "I didn't really see what was happening. I didn't know if it was a medical emergency or someone had a gun, and they were trying to escape."
She watched as police pulled the uninjured baby from the vehicle.
He was later reunited with his family.
Chicago Police said the kidnapping followed a series of collisions in Ravenswood.
The same driver who stole the car from the parking lot previously crashed into multiple vehicles parked nearby, including a police car.
"I hear like a crash and then a crash after,” said Amir Rouzati, whose car was turned on its side. "All of them got hit back-to-back just because of that one collision.”
Police are questioning a person of interest, though charges have yet to be filed.
It’s also unclear if there was someone else in the car.
