(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Despite a court ruling, backers of the proposed “Bring Chicago Home” ordinance are, if anything, escalating their campaign to urge people to vote for the measure via referendum.

Early voters will still see the proposal to raise the real-estate transfer tax to help the homeless on the March 19 primary ballot. The recent court decision just means the votes won't be counted.

But the ruling is being appealed, and Vaughn Roland, political director for the ballot initiative, said the referendum could be revived. So, they’re urging voters in Chicago to still vote for it when they see it.

If the appeals don't go their way, of course backers will try to get a more streamlined measure on the November ballot, Roland said.
