(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Jerseys for the marquee Chicago Cubs players traded this week are expected to be flying off the shelves at sports apparel shops, as fans try to get a piece of local baseball history.

It was clear Friday the Cubs were sellers. The organization cut 11th-hour deals that dealt All Stars and 2016 World Series heroes Javier Baez, Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo to other teams.

Sadness abounded in Wrigleyville among fans. But another indication of the ending era could be seen at apparel shops near Wrigley Field.

A manager at Clark Street Sports said Cubs-branded items began spiking Thursday when word came that Rizzo was going to the Yankees. That likely will intensify with the later trades of Baez and Bryant, she said.

“They are very loved in the community,” the manager said.

The jerseys of the three baseball heroes will likely sell out, she said.
