If you're approached with an offer to earn big money by putting sponsor logos on your vehicle, you might be getting wrapped up in a scam. This week “Tip-Off to the Rip-Off” on WBBM explains how to stay clear of these wrap scams.
Scammers are promising large cash payouts to people who wrap their cars, trucks, and boats with logos from well-known brands, Jay Elliot of the Better Business Bureau explained.
Of course, none of this is real. Here’s how it plays out: you’ll receive a check and be instructed to pay a vendor to wrap your vehicle, but the check bounces, you lose the money you spent for the wrap, and then the scammer disappears.
To stay safe, keep the following in mind:
· Be cautious with unsolicited offers
· Avoid sharing bank information or paying strangers through mobile payment apps
· Always verify that the company is legitimate, and make sure any checks you receive are real before spending your own money
