CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Bears coach Matt Nagy addressed the media Thursday afternoon saying he has not been informed that Thanksgiving will be his final game as head coach, as an earlier report suggested. Nagy said he has not spoken with ownership or Ted Phillips this week.
The Patch had reported Tuesday morning that “a top source with knowledge of the decision” said Nagy was told Monday that Thursday’s Thanksgiving game in Detroit would be his final game as head coach.
"There's been a lot of situations where Matt Nagy has come under fire," Patch reporter Matt Konkol told WBBM's Cisco Cotto. He also said that public opinion may also have played a role in the decision as there have been reports of people chanting "Fire Nagy" at a recent Bulls game and at a football game at Cary-Grove High School in Cary, where Nagy's son was playing for the other team.
"There's a lot of pressure on this team and the fans aren't happy. After five straight losses, this is a tough one," said Konkol.
Nagy was hired in 2018 and would be the first Bears coach to be fired mid-season in franchise history.
