Bears tight end Cole Kmet makes history after long snapping performance

(670 The Score) Bears tight end Cole Kmet has been honored following his successful long snapping debut.

Kmet on Wednesday was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week in recognition of his work in stepping in as the Bears' emergency long snapper in their 35-16 win against the Jaguars on Sunday in London. Kmet is the first-ever long snapper to earn the honor and is believed to be the first offensive non-returner to earn the award.

Kmet stepped in during the first quarter Sunday after long snapper Scott Daly suffered a knee injury. Kmet delivered five successful snaps on extra-point attempts. Two of those snaps came following touchdowns scored by Kmet.

Kmet became the first player since 2005 to score a touchdown and then deliver a subsequent long snap on the point-after try.

Kmet joins Bears punter Tory Taylor in earning the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week honor this season. Taylor was honored in Week 4.

The Bears (4-2) are on their bye this week. They return to action by visiting the Commanders (4-2) on Oct. 27, with kickoff set for 3:25 p.m. CT.
