CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago Bears President Kevin Warren said he is still working hard to persuade state lawmakers to approve some public financing for a new, domed stadium on the city’s lakefront, despite inaction in Springfield.
Warren said he is not disappointed and did not expect to win quick approval for the Bears stadium plan.
“We have more work to do,” he said. “We’re going to continue our conversations with our elected officials, and continually just work on it. It’s something that’s important … I’m confident that, at the appropriate time, we’ll be able to figure something out.”
At a Lincoln Forum luncheon at the Union League Club, the Bears President and CEO was asked if he's still talking with lawmakers — even now that the legislative session is over.
“Every day,” he said. “I already had meetings this morning. Two things I can guarantee every single day [are] the focus on the football team, focus on our stadium, and then the other thing is making sure that we build a winning culture here in Chicago.”
The NFL has a ban on Private Equity Companies having a state in the football teams, but the league is considering lifting it. At the Union League Club luncheon, Warren was asked if the McCaskey family would consider selling a stake in the team that way.
Warren said that is not something that is being talked about. He added that it isn’t something on the table, and he cannot envision it being something the family would feel the need to do.
Still, he did not say never.
