(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Members of the Chicago Bears are practicing with pads at Halas Hall — a sign that training camp is ramping up, ever so slightly.

“When you have no pads, you know what to expect at the end of every play. There’s going to be a whistle that concludes every play, and everybody’s going to go back to the huddle happy,” says Bears analyst Tom Thayer.

“When you put in shoulder pads and helmets, you put in collisions, you put in that type of decision-making factor at the end of each play, it makes a total difference in the whole realm of practice.”

Jeff Joniak notes that some Bears players haven’t played since January 2020, so the experience of being fully suited up may seem different to them.
