CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Three good government groups are calling on the Johnson administration and City Council to change how they run meetings so as to bring greater transparency and follow campaign promises.

A top concern of the Better Government Association, Civic Federation and the League of Women Voters is that the mayor or aldermen often introduce items without publicly sharing them first or they lack sufficient details.

In a letter, the groups suggest the city extend the deadline for posting agendas to four days, streamline how residents sign up for public comment and reconsider the 30-minute limit at a time that has seen rowdy public galleries stop council meetings.

BGA President David Greising told the Chicago Sun-Times some of the state’s worst laws were passed without adequate public scrutiny, and Brandon Johnson is at least the third mayor in a row to promise to be the most transparent but has failed so far.
