JOLIET (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Some of the new owners of the Joliet Slammers minor league baseball team appeared before a city council meeting Monday night, but not the most famous one, actor Bill Murray.

Mike Veeck said the opportunity to buy the majority share of the team is the latest in a long-standing partnership with Murray.

“Bill and I will be the lead investors,” Veeck said. “We have a really interesting kind of eclectic group that we’ve put together.”

Veeck told city council members the team’s current owner Nick Semaca will stay on as a minority investor. Vecck is the son of the late White Sox owner and master promoter Bill Veeck.

“It’s time, at my age. I’m 72, and I want to come home. Ever since I blew up those disco records, I haven’t really been welcome and, so, I  thought I could come and apologize, make a mass apology,” added Veeck.

Veeck told the committee their approach is to make people laugh and entertain kids.

Also appearing before the stadium committee was Veeck’s son named Night Train who has been working for the White Sox for several years.

The full city council is slated to vote on the deal tonight.
