(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A popular Chicago tavern is opening a new location in the city’s North Side.
The Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce confirmed that Billy Goat Tavern & Grill is coming to Wrigleyville.
“As the Billy Goat Tavern prepares to join the Wrigleyville community, we at the Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce couldn’t be more excited about the potential for this legendary establishment to weave itself into the fabric of our neighborhood,” a statement from the chamber of commerce read.
The restaurant is world-renowned for its “Cheezborger, Cheezborger, Cheezborger” mantra, which was brought to the national stage in an SNL skit featuring John Belushi and Bill Murray.
One of the wild tales associated with the Billy Goat Tavern is a story of how Billy Goat Tavern owner William “Billy Goat” Sianis was asked to leave Wrigley Field during the 1945 World Series because his goat was bothering other spectators. The legend goes that Sianis cursed the Chicago Cubs to never win a World Series again.
Since the Cubs did win the World Series in 2016, the Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce is happy to welcome the restaurant to friendly confines.
The new Wrigleyville location is set to open a location at 3724-3726 N Clark Street.
