(WBBM NEWSRADIO) --A semi-trailer truck hauling scrap caused a crash that shut down the inbound Bishop Ford Freeway this morning after it hit the 159th Street overpass.
The scrap metal was flying in the air and coming down on cars, according to a witness. The metal included steel high beams.
The load was too high to clear the bridge, according to Sean Cummings, who spoke to CBS 2.
He said the car in front of him stopped suddenly and he rearended in causing his airbags to deploy.
"So I'm like, 'woah!' and the lady in front of me stopped suddenly, and then boom, I hit the back of her, and my airbags came out," Cummings said.
"I'm blessed I didn't get hit by the beams. We all are."
He was okay nobody was injured, but there was a mess to be cleaned up on the road.
