(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Black woman grabbed by a white Chicago police officer during an argument at North Avenue Beach last year is suing him and the city.

Nikkita Brown filed the federal lawsuit on Thursday, the same day former police officer Bruce Dyker appeared in court.

Attorney Michael Gallagher, who represents Brown, said she felt threatened by what her lawsuit calls Dyker’s aggressive demeanor on a closed beach in August 2021.

Gallagher notes Dyker had 24 civilian complaints filed against him before this – at least seven of which involved minorities. Gallagher said the city of Chicago is notorious for not holding officers accountable for such misconduct.

Dyker, a 23-year veteran, resigned last month before any discipline handed down.

He pleaded not guilty to aggravated battery and official misconduct charges filed by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.

WBBM Newsradio has reached out to his attorney and the city for comment.
