GARY, Ind. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Some of the other pilots stood and watched as the U.S. Navy Blue Angels took off from the runway at the Gary Jet Center, the staging area for the 2022 Chicago Air and Water Show.
The Blue Angels provided a spectacular finish to a day of stops, starts, stops, more starts and, finally, impressive aerobatic performances.
Although the sun never stopped shining in Gary, Chicago’s North Avenue Beach — a mere 30 miles northwest — saw lots of rain and cloud coverage throughout Sunday morning and into the early afternoon.
Some of the flights were canceled, but “safety first” was the call of the day, of course, so everyone was understanding.

The acts that did fly, though, including the F-22 Raptor, the F-35 and, certainly, the Blue Angels, were worth the rain.
