WHEELING, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A popular Wheeling restaurant is temporarily closed due to Cook County’s vaccine mandate.

Bob Chinn’s Crab House opened in 1982 and is considered to be one of the highest-grossing restaurants in the country.

In a social media post, the Wheeling eatery announced it would be closing its doors for the next month citing “unforeseen business circumstances” created by Cook County’s proof-of-vaccination mandate.

Cook County requires anyone over the age of 5 to present proof of vaccination at indoor settings where food or drink are served, including bars and restaurants.

As a resuly, beginning Sunday, Jan. 9, Bob Chinn's Crab House will pause all business (indoor dining, as well as carry-out) until Monday Feb. 7.

During that time, Bob Chinn's plans to "reset the restaurant, continue our building updates and give our team some much needed rest and recuperation after an incredibly busy holiday season"

“COVID has affected us in many ways, but the health and safety of our team members and guests is and always will be paramount,” the restaurant stated. "Stay well and warm! We look forward to seeing you all in February!"
