(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A 15-year-old Plainfield boy faces several charges after he allegedly brought a loaded firearm to Oswego East High School on Tuesday, police said.
Students turned over a backpack to school officials that contained the loaded firearm, according to police who responded to the incident. A student reportedly left the backpack with a classmate, who, along with other students, looked inside.
Police investigated and determined the student who brought the weapon did not mean to harm anyone, but he was taken into custody. Prosecutors have charged him with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful use of a weapon and unauthorized storage/possession of a weapon, police said.
The 15-year-old was transported to the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center to await a hearing, officials said.
"Oswego Police conducted a thorough investigation and believe there is no current threat of danger to students, staff, or the school," the department said in a news release.
