CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A young boy has died following last weekend’s apartment fire on the South Side.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office announced 7-year-old Adrian Matias had succumbed to injuries suffered at Saturday’s overnight fire at a three-story apartment building near 78th and Phillips in the South Shore neighborhood.
It was elevated to an extra-alarm response, with crews using three water lines to put the third-floor fire.
One person died at the scene. In addition to the boy, three others were transported to area hospitals. They included a child, listed in critical condition, and two adults, one described in serious condition, the other listed in fair condition.
Cause of the fire remains under investigation.
