Boy rescued from water at Montrose Beach

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A 6-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was rescued from the water at Montrose Beach.

Chicago Police said the child was pulled out of Lake Michigan around 6:40 p.m. Wednesday.

Paramedics transported him to Lurie’s Children Hospital.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are unclear. Area Three detectives are investigating.

Life guards are not yet on duty. The beaches are not yet open for swimming. That starts tomorrow, May 24.

Beaches will be staffed between 11am and 7 pm. At about 55 degrees, the water remains very cold.
