(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An Indiana Boy Scout made a special trip to Chicago Friday in hopes of earning an impressive badge — but more importantly to help some critically ill children and their families.
17-year-old Adam Lung dreams of someday working for the CDC. But first he hopes to become an Eagle Scout.
As part of earning that badge, the St. John native designed a unique type of children’s wagon.
“The wagons are designed for children who are sick, who are in the hospital,” he said. “Since the wagons have an IV pole and oxygen tank, it allows them to be a lot more mobile. They can go around the hospital and explore a bit. It can also help with some of the anxieties they have.”
Lung and his family stopped by La Rabida Children’s Hospital on Friday to deliver 10 of the special wagons to parents of critically ill children, like Natalie Sanchez.
“This is amazing,” she said. “It feels good to know that my son has something that is more like all the other children that we usually see when we go to amusement parks and stuff.”
Watching his son, Jason Lung was at a loss for words.
“I’m just super excited for him,” he said. “I’m so proud of him.”
