(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Suburban Noon Whistle Brewing has a hefty fine as a memento of this year's cicada emergence.

Earlier this year, the Lombard brewery sold shots of Jeppson's Malört — infused with cicadas — for $5 per shot

The combination of cicadas and the liquor with the distinctive taste was irresistible, and the story gained worldwide traction on social media.

It looks like Noon Whistle’s ingenuity wasn’t a hit with everyone, though. Eater Chicago reports the state’s liquor control commission fined Noon Whistle for the concoction.

The brewery wasn't named in the official paperwork, and regulators concluded that the licensee was “provided education on the issue.”

Cicadas would appear to be outside of the state's rules governing spirit infusion.
