(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The British Consulate in Chicago has opened its doors this week so that Chicagoans can leave written condolences for the Royal Family.

Locals may come to the consulate, 625 N. Michigan Ave., between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. daily to write messages in condolence books.

“We think it’s important that people do have outlets to express their affection for the Queen,” says British Consul General in Chicago Alan Gogbashian.

He already has seen an outpouring of grief from Illinoisans, including elected officials like Gov. JB Pritzker.

Condolence books at more than 200 British embassies worldwide will eventually be sent to London to be archived by the Royal Family. Virtual condolences can also be made through the Royal.uk website.
