A disagreement between a California bar manager and an agitated customer allegedly escalated into a physical altercation Thursday night, one that left the manager dead.
Leonard Korpie, 26, was arrested after police say he was part of a group of patrons who got rowdy and were asked to leave Jameson’s Pub. Korpie then stepped outside with the manager and punched him, knocking him out.
“A fight ensued on the street when the Jameson’s manager asked several patrons to leave,” the Santa Monica Police Department said in a statement.
“Out on the street, one of the patrons punched the manager, causing him to lose consciousness,” the statement continued.
The victim was unresponsive and not breathing when officers arrived on the scene, and CPR was attempted by Santa Monica firefighters. He was later pronounced dead at a nearby medical facility, according to the SMPD.
Korpie has been charged with homicide and is in custody with bail set at $2 million.
