(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Evanston Police say they were able to arrest a man for unlawful use of a weapon, thanks to a call to 9-1-1 -- and to the city’s security camera system.

Police say it was earlier this month when someone spotted a passenger in a car with a Utah license plate point a gun at another car at the intersection of Church and Dodge.

The observer called 9-1-1, and Evanston Police say city cameras recorded the incident and confirmed the observer’s account.

Police say they found the Utah car and arrested the passenger as the driver was getting back into the car and tried to flee.

Authorities say they found a loaded Glock 23 on the floor of the passenger’s side.

Charged with one felony count of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon is 34-year-old Xavier Frye of Evanston, police said.
