CAMPTON HILLS, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Village of Campton Hills is at an impasse with the Campton Highway District as it tries to renew an intergovernmental agreement that would continue service of the village’s 101 miles of roads.
The two had an agreement from 2007 to 2017. It was extended another five years and expired on Monday.
The highway district has offered a proposal, but Village President Michael Tyrrell said it doesn’t include language ensuring road funds from the State and Kane County will be properly spent and documented.
“The Village values its relationship with the Township Highway District and has submitted multiple proposals to continue the agreement with the necessary new language,” the village wrote in a statement.
“However, the District refuses to alter its current inadequate method of invoicing, which means the agreement cannot continue.”
Campton Hills recently underwent a three-year audit of the road district’s spending, which cost the village more than $30,000.
However, the Campton Highway District put the blame on the village, claiming it sent the incorrect paperwork to the state.
Tyrrell said if the village can’t reach an agreement, it will find a new partner to service the roads.
