CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- As snow continues to sit on rooftops, more structural collapses have been reported in Chicago.
"This is a garage and a person is trapped in the garage in the car."
That was the emergency call that send firefighters to Victor Moore's home in the 2500 block of East 96th Street in the Jeffery Manor neighborhood.
Moore said he went to his garage to find it had partially collapsed on his car. He thought he could back it out, but it collapsed all around him.
“So I go inside and some of it had collapsed on the car, but I felt that I could pull the car out. And when I pulled the car out, more of the roof collapsed," he told CBS 2. "It stopped me right between the doors and I couldn’t get out either way, so I was stuck inside the car."
Moore was stuck for two hours, before finally calling 911 for help.
“When the Fire Department came, he said, ‘You can do it,’” Moore told CBS 2. “I was able to come out feet-first and pull myself out, and the fireman helped me the rest of the way.”
Moore's garage collapse was one of at least three structural collapses on Thursday.
On the North Side, another garage roof collapsed and nearby power lines came down with it. Nobody was in the garage at the time and nobody was injured.
The homeowner noticed earlier Thursday that it was sagging and got his cars out before it came down.
In another incident, a tent came down outside the Arbour Health Care Center nursing home at 1512 W. Fargo Ave. in the Rogers Park neighborhood. Two people were crushed underneath, and one person was hurt.
Collapses are more likely in unheated structures, like garages or vacant buildings.
The Chicago Fire Department expects more collapses as long as the snow sticks around.
