(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An organization that aims to build a more inclusive and equitable United States is launching a new initiative in Chicago—with some help from former president Barack Obama.

“Our country is changing,” he said in a video for Civic Nation. “But I still believe there is more that unites us than divides us, and that’s because I believe in the power of community.”

The new program, called Change Collective, will create a cohort of 25 leaders representing a range of backgrounds, identities and ideologies, with one shared goal: building a more inclusive and equitable country.

“It’s a way to bring emerging leaders from different identities and backgrounds together, and help them build relationships and solve problems in their communities,” Obama said. “Because real change happens one person, one community, one connection at a time.”

Civic Nation is now accepting applications for the program, which will launch in Chicago, Detroit and Jackson, Miss., and will later expand to more cities.

Each cohort will include 25 leaders representing a range of identities, backgrounds and ideologies.
