(WBBM NEWSARDIO) -- Tinley Park officials had little new information Monday about the fatal shooting of four women -- a woman and her three adult daughters -- inside a home over the weekend.
Tinley Park Police Chief Tom Tilton said he expects charges against the man taken into custody to be announced “in the near future.”
"We're working very closely with the state's attorney, and we're making sure we have all the information as specific as we can so they can make a charging decision, so we don't want to impact that,” he told reporters at a news conference.
The shooting happened inside a home near 173rd Place and Osceola. Officers arrived in minutes Sunday and found a mother and her three adult daughters shot to death in the home. A gun reportedly was found at the scene.
The village has identified the women as 53-year-old Majeda Kassem and her adult daughters, Hanan, Halema and Zahia. Halema and Zahia are twins. All were in their mid-20s.
The shooting appears to be the result of domestic violence, Tilton said, but he did not provide any further details.
"This is about power and control. This is about gender-based violence. And this is at this point, whether it's this case or any other case, this is not something the community condones,” Itedal Shalabi with the Arab American Family Services told reporters.
Tilton says it's the deadliest attack in the suburb in 15 years. He commended first responders for their quick response and said mental health resources are available for them.
