(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A bakery and café that opened Tuesday on Chicago's North Side will offer a new spot to pick up baked goods and hot coffee, while helping a good cause at the same time.

Misericordia, which provides services to people with intellectual disabilities, has opened the Hearts and Flour Bakery and Café on Ravenswood near Ridge.

Father Jack Clair, who leads Misericordia, said the organization hopes to boost its fundraising by increasing sales of its baked goods. To that end, he said, the bakery and café are on a very busy commuter route.

Clair said the project also features an art studio and a coffee processing facility, all of which provide much needed job opportunities for Misericordia residents.
