(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Income and property tax rebates are being sent this week to an estimated six million qualified taxpayers in Illinois.
Gov. JB Pritzker on Monday said the tax rebates may be one-time occurrences, but that's not all the benefits destined for taxpayers. The state plans to keep increasing the annual Earned Income Tax Credit, he said.
The rebates in 2022 are the result of the Illinois Family Relief Plan. Those who made less than $200,000 in 2021 will receive $50 rebates. Couples filing jointly with incomes under $400,000 will receive $100.
Critics say the payments are an election-year gimmick to bolster Pritzker and other Democrats who are running this fall.
